Limestone County is located in the central part of North Alabama, bordered by Madison, Morgan, Lawrence and Lauderdale Counties in Alabama, as well as Giles County in Tennessee. The county is part of the Tennessee Valley and is in the foot hills of the Appalachian Mountains. The county seat, the City of Athens, is located along Interstate-65 and U.S. Highway 72.
